Belief in Drug Rehab When it’s hard to Find
May 15th, 2006 by Terry Keith
There really is something perculiar about drug and alcohol rehab. It is that sometimes it requires a degree of faith that based on the evidence and past history, doesn’t make sense. Some clients have relapsed repeatedly over their life. They have been to several if not many rehab centers, with many different styles of programs. There result has always been a return to drug abuse and the lying and shame that follows.
It can be hard to believe in the power of a human to change for the better. The “odds” of a successful outcome seem to be growing smaller and smaller. How can a family, faced with this picture, continue with trying to assist and fund rehab? It is because of one simple reason. A single person is not a probability. Maybe with a group of 5000 the reality of the percentages can become meaningful. With a single person the “probabilities” become meaningless. They will either change or they won’t. AND BOTH OUTCOMES ARE POSSIBLE.
The really wonderful thing in life, is that any situation can be turned around and changed for the better. It is the one truly wonderful gift the universe gives us. It is also why we work in the field of drug and alcohol rehab. It is how we always find the hope and belief that all of our clients can change, one by one.
