The Role of Support Networks in Drug Rehab Relapse Prevention Plans
December 1st, 2007 by Terry Keith
In a drug rehab center you have a built-in support network. There are counselors, educators and other clients to be there to keep you of the path to your goals. Another key part of a relapse prevention plan is the formation of a quality support network when you leave drug rehab. For this support network to be effective, it is wise to define who exactly is in your network. It should have people with clearly defined roles as well.
For a support network to be the most effective you must also come up with strategies for making a connection with these people. Without structure and planning you will simply be leaning on people when you need help. These one-sided friendships will be draining and tiresome to the other person. Regular connection with people for fun and meaningful connections are just as important as having someone to call on your bad days. Developing a group of real friends is an extremely component of your relapse prevention plan.
